The Center for Collaborative Democracy is devoted to developing and promoting Collaborative Democracy as an alternative to our current adversarial approach to democratic governance.
Our democratic traditions are currently undergoing great strain. The United States is arguably more divided politically than it has ever been — except for the Civil War. Different parties do not simply differ on how to reach our collective goals, they disagree about the nature of the goals themselves. We are pulling ourselves in opposite directions.
We sometimes think that once American democracy was established, it had achieved its final form. At the Center for Collaborative Democracy, we believe that to respond to our current crises, democracy must continue to evolve. We must move from an adversarial democracy to a collaborative democracy.
