Stop Arguing and Build Your Relationships: A 3-Hour Workshop (April 8, 2023)

Workshop Summary

Stop Arguing and Strengthen Your Relationship: A 3-Hour Conflict Management Workshop

They tell you that the most important thing in any relationship — whether it is a friendship, work relationship, or love relationship — is communication. Right. But what they don’t tell you is how to communicate!

Conflict happens.  It is inevitable.  But conflict itself isn’t necessarily a problem. Properly handled, conflict can actually be good.  What matters is not that people have conflict, but how it is handled.

This workshop will teach you (or you and a partner) basic strategies for resolving conflict in virtually any type of interaction or relationship.   Although it takes time to develop deep skills for resolving conflict, in this workshop, you will nonetheless acquire skills that you will be able to use immediately. .

By the end of the three hours, you will learn strategies that you can use effectively in your everyday life.  Among other things, you will learn to:

1. Understand how interpersonal conflict is actually an opportunity for growth.

2. Speak so that your partner will listen to what you have to say.

3. Listen so that your partner will speak.

4. Identify the needs that motivate people to take the positions they do in a conflict.

5. Work together with the other person to find ways to solve problems between you.

We will also focus on resolving actual conflicts that you may be experiencing in your life now.

You will be asked to purchase From Conflict to Collaboration: A Step-by-Step Guide to Solving Problems in Everyday Relationships which contains much of the content of the course.  Although we suggest chapters that you can read for each session, reading the chapters is optional.   We understand that you are busy.  It’s not always possible to read for a workshop.  So, don’t worry.  The important thing is to attend the workshops and work with the ideas.
