When we think of conflict as a battle, there can be only one winner. But when we think of conflict as an opportunity for problem-solving, it becomes possible for all parties to win (without either giving in or compromising).
Once you have each other's needs on the table, generate possible ways of meeting those needs. Don't evaluate your ideas yet -- just list, list, and list some more.
Once you have generated possible ways of solving your problem, Step 4 involves working together to find a clever and innovative solution that meets as many needs as possible.
