How to Have a Political Conversation — And Get Results — 7 Week Workshop

June 2 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Do you find that your political conversations tend to end poorly?  This is not surprising.  Political polarization has increased in our nation. In our increasingly divided society, we treat conversations about political issues not as an opportunity to solve problems, but instead as debates to be won or lost.  We want to show our opponents that we are right — and they are wrong.  When was the last time you changed your mind in a debate? When was the last time you changed someone else’s mind in a debate?

In this seven-week workshop, you’ll learn how to solve problems with people who have different viewpoints than you.  This workshop is for people who want to learn to communicate with “the other side”, who want to solve problems rather than prove their superiority, who want to reach agreement – all without “giving in” to the other person.  It is appropriate for people interested in resolving political conflict, as well as for people who want to learn to solve problems in the workplace or even in interpersonal relationships.

We seek a cohort of 6-10 people from different political orientations to run the series.  If you are interested, please contact michaelmascolo@creatingcommonground.org or call 978-978-8745.  We’ll get back to you within 24 hours.

The workshop will be held over zoom on 7 consecutive Sunday evenings between 6:00 and 8:00 ESTOnce a diverse cohort of 6-10 people has been recruited, we will begin the workshop series.

This is part of the inaugural workshop series for Creating Common Ground (www.creatingcommonground.org), a non-profit devoted to teaching people ways to bridge divides on political, social and interpersonal issues.   Because the workshop series is currently under development, we are offering this cohort at a deeply discounted rate ($99.00) for the full 7-week series.   (As a nonprofit, however, our goal is not to turn people away because of financial need.)
